For decades, the City of Hartford and the Conservancy have brought spring early to the park by hosting the Spring Greenhouse Show, which is free to the public. In the fall, the Conservancy orders many varieties of bulb plants: tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and lilies, which are potted and moved to cold storage for the winter. Under a controlled environment, the plants are moved to the greenhouse and will bloom in time for the show. Hanging baskets of annuals, which are started from seeds, add to the color and variety.
The show is held for two weeks in March. On the last Saturday, the Conservancy holds a greenhouse sale from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Check under What’s Happening for this year’s date.
The funds raised from the Greenhouse Sale support the Tulip Garden, which blooms in late April to early May. Over 11,000 tulips are planted in the fall for the spectacular spring show.
